Columbia Finishes Season 9th in the Metro East April 30, 2013

Uptown Local traveled to Princeton this weekend to compete in Metro East Regionals. After a 12-13 loss in a grueling barn burner with NYU, UpLo battled injuries and a well-rested SUNY-Albany team in the pre-quarterfinal round. Unfortunately, the Boys in Blue were eliminated in an upset surprising enough to be mentioned in MLU commentary.

Sunday, a rested UpLo reasserted themselves as a dominant team, commandingly taking ninth with a 15-2 victory over SUNY-Buffalo and a 15-0 beatdown of SUNY-Stony Brook.

Last night, USA Ultimate released the final Regular Season rankings.

Uptown Local finished the season ranked 4th in the Metro East and 58th in the nation with a final record of 20-1.

Due to our opponents' rostering issues, our wins over Johns Hopkins (11-4) and Indiana University of Pennsylvania (6-9) were not counted towards our final ranking.

Columbia Ultimate on Ultiworld April 4, 2013

Monday, Michael Kinstlick (class of '90), published a piece on Ultiworld.

Mr. Kinstlick, co-owner of the AUDL's San Francisco franchise, argues that the AUDL and MLU are playing a vital role in Ultimate's development, providing an alternative to USA Ultimate's "pay-to-play" model.

He joins current captain Alexander Palmer, who has been working as an Ultiworld opinion columnist since January.

Ultiworld is currently the premeire source of Ultimate news in the US. In addition to regular coverage and analysis of College, Club, and Pro Ultimate, Ultiworld reports on the business decisions that shape the development of our sport.

STEAK!!! April 2, 2013

Uptown Local finished another weekend undefeated to win Steakfest 2013! UpLo fought through a slow start on Saturday ending with a solid 13-8 win over Dickinson. Sunday began with a tough injury to o-line cutter Karl Bayer during warmups. Despite the loss, Columbia came out strong with an emphatic 15-2 win over hosts Shippensburg.

In the final game vs. undefeated D-III powerhouse Stevens Tech, UpLo allowed two consecutive breaks to start the game. When it looked the most bleak, the Columbia sidelines lit up and the team responded. UpLo did not allow another break and powered through to the last point, winning 15-8.

The steak was delicious.

Big Weekend in Atlantic City March 10, 2013

Columbia Ultimate had a solid weekend at the Atlantic City Invite. Both teams battled through seriously depleted rosters in a grueling series of games.

Uptown Local took 3rd over Shippensburg University, breaking seed and going 6-1 for the tournament.

Duplo took the B-Team Championship, beating Shippensburg-B for 17th place after a comeback of seven breaks in a row.

Stay tuned for MVP announcements later this week.

Uptown Local Wins Callahans in the Capitol March 4, 2013

This weekend, Uptown Local went 7-0 to win our first tournament of the College Regular Season. While we were originally the 10th seed, the team played fantastic offense (our offense started 51 points and scored on 43 of them) and commanding, athletic defense to earn a shoutout from USA Ultimate.

A further congratulations to our two tournament MVPs, Cameron Bruggeman and Eric "DP" Chen.

Rise Up

Results from Autumn Sky October 19, 2012

At the end of a very windy Sunday at Autumn Sky, UpLo broke their seeding of 8th and finished 4th. Taking down Metro-East rivals Princeton and Rutgers, UpLo fought through numerous injuries to make it to the third place game against Stevens Tech. The team played cohesively and featured a breakout performance from first-year grad student Matthew Damiano.

Uptown Local's upcoming schedule has them playing at Dirty Bird the weekend of October 20th and New England Classic the weekend of November 3rd.
